The 26th Joetsu Town Kurakawa Machiya Byobugai Festival will be held from September 15 to October 15, 2026. One of the three major festivals in Murakami, this event showcases traditional screens and folk tools displayed in the interior of the former townspeople's machiya. Admission is free, so please take this opportunity to experience the spirit of the townspeople.
This is a chance to peek inside the machiya, which are usually off-limits. When entering and exiting, please remember to greet the homeowners and refrain from touching the exhibits. Viewing hours are from 9:00 to 17:00, but may vary by location, so it's recommended to check in advance.
